Born in Scranton, N.C., he lived in Vineland for 57 years. Cleo worked as a barber for 43 years and concurrently as a bus driver for the Vineland Board of Education for 23 years. He also "worked" in his backyard garden raising vegetables, which he canned and froze. His favorite pastimes were gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church where, as an active member, he served as a trustee and sang in the gospel ensemble and the men's chorus.
Left to cherish memories of him are his loving and nurturing wife, Shirley; loving children, Theresa Garrett and husband Bruce of Atlantic City, Janette Spencer-Davis and husband Mack Davis III of Tampa, Fla., Cynthia Spencer of Vineland, Mark Spencer and special friend Elsie Tabiolo of Alameda, Calif., Kim Spencer-Hudgins of Egg Harbor Township and Linda Faye Lawson and husband Everett of Tampa, Fla.; eldest daughter, Barbara Timmons and husband Monroe of Orange, N.J.; sister, Lossie M. Barnes of Greensboro, N.C.; brother, Franklin Spencer and wife Vernell of Wheatley Heights, N.Y.; sisters-in-law, Celeste of Phoenix, Ariz., Cora of West Babylon, N.Y., Rosie of Millville, Mary Louise Hunt of Columbus, Ga., Jean Segers of Oakland, Calif., Hattie Segers of Lindenwold, Rose Butts, Jessie Mae Segers and Mable Segers of Vineland; brothers-in-law, Fred Davis of Bellhaven, N.C., Otis Segers of Oakland, Calif., and Leon Segers of Vineland; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by son, Floyd Spencer; brothers, Jack, Oney and William; and sisters, Ina Daniels, Cora Hodge and Annie Davis.
Interment will be at Siloam Cemetery, Vineland.
