Wilder, VT – Larry A. Smith, 76, died early Tuesday morning, March 17th at his daughter’s home in Enfield, NH.

He was born September 28, 1938 in Hanover, NH a son of Ralph and Marion (Stanley) Smith. After graduating from Hanover High School, Larry worked for a time at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover where he met Roberta Twiss. They were married August 17, 1957 in Wilder, VT. They lived in Strafford for a time, moving to Norwich, VT in 1972 where they lived for a dozen years. In 1984 they returned to Roberta’s home town of Wilder where they had their home for nearly thirty years. Roberta died in 2010 and Mr. Smith has been living in with his daughter in Enfield for the past several years.

Larry began his career at Dan & Whit’s Store in Norwich in 1961 and was a fixture there for over fifty years, retiring as Assistant Manager.

At home Larry was an true family man, doing everything from skiing with his kids at the rope tow in Strafford to attending their sporting events and cooking at family barbecue’s and fish fries. He also loved spending time with his wife including dancing and berry picking and gardening. When he had time to himself he enjoyed fishing and playing cribbage at the American Legion in Norwich.

Larry is also predeceased by a son Victor Smith and a brother Stanley Smith.

He is survived by a daughter Deborah Hooker and her husband Thomas of Enfield, NH; three sons, Jeffrey Smith and his wife Belinda of Hartford, VT, Timothy Smith his wife Sherry of Newbury, VT, and Gregory Smith his wife Marcia of Canaan, NH; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four siblings, Richard Smith of Merrimack, NH, Norma Tuttle, Joan Laro both of White River Junction, VT, and Wilfred Smith of West Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and Friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, March 21 at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction from 3-5PM immediately followed by a funeral at the funeral home at 5PM.
