Nellie Visser, 94, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, at Oakwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Albia. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral chapel in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Michael Crouch of First Christian Church officiating. Burial: Forest Cemetery. Visiting hours begin 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel, with family present 6-8 p.m. Memorials: First Christian Church.
Nellie B. Visser, daughter of John W. and Eva Fuller Bain, was born Nov. 6, 1909, in Lamar County, Kansas. She married Harold C. Visser on Sept. 9, 1929, at the First Christian Church parsonage. They farmed in East Des Moines Township in Mahaska County until retiring in 1979, when they moved to Oskaloosa. Nellie was active in the Garfield Township Ladies Club and the women's quilting group at First Christian Church, where she was a member; she made several quilts for family members, grandchildren and others.
She is survived by five sons and 6 daughters-in-laws; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four grandchildren; two brothers: Price and Clarence Bain; and three sisters: Bertha Bain Brittain, Stella Bain Mika, and Elsie Bain Stewart.
