James was born in Ohio when his parents, along with the patriarch of the family and several other siblings and their families headed west. They crossed the Mississippi, to homestead land in Marion and Mahaska counties in Iowa.
James married his first wife, Rachel Price in Marion County, possibly a small town called Lake Prairie(now extinct)on 28 Sept 1861. To this union were born:William H(1862-1868),Mary Ellen(1864-1868),Joseph(1868-1875),Charles H(1871-1955),Rose B(1873-),Alice C(1875-),James W(1878-1878).
After Rachel passed away, James married his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Harmson (1849-1934) on 1 Jan 1880, either in Lake Prairie, or Pella, Marion County, Iowa.
Together they had three children: Minnie D Marble (1884-1908), Lulu Ethel Gifford(1887-1981), Queen Bess Strong Nelson(1891-1931). James farmed land in his earlier years then began a tiling business that buried tile under the ground to manage water drainage in fields until retirement.
*(I created this memorial because there wasn't one established for him and his wife Elizabeth, and is waiting for photos of their tombstones to be added.I am descended through Henry Charles Fisk's daughter, Laura Charity Fisk Bacon, m/o Daniel Bacon Fisk my 1st GGF)
