According to his biography in the History of DeKalb County Indiana; BF Bowen & Company Inc Indianapolis 1914

Benjamin's parents were Samuel of Maryland and Eliza Studebaker of Ohio Hawver. They had 14 children, but only Benjamin, Laura Stingrey, Merritt, Wilbur and Samuel lived past infancy.

Benjamin married Audree E Fair Jan 2, 1890. Her family was one of the first to settle in DeKalb County which had many Indians, and her relative Barbara Fair was the first white child born in the county.

He attended Fort Wayne Business College and has farmed over a hundred acres. The Hawvers had 2 children Don who graduated in 1913 from Garrett High School and Thelma.

Benjamin F. Hawver, 84, of five miles southwest of Garrett in Butler township, DeKalb county, died Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. in Sacred Heart hospital, Garrett, of senility. He had been a patient at the hospital since May 15.

The body was taken to the Hite funeral home at Kendallville. Arrangements are incomplete.

Mr. Hawver, a son of the late Samuel and Eliza Hawver, was a native of Butler township. He and Audrey Fair were married Jan. 2. 1890, and she died in December, 1945.

Mr. Hawver, a retired farmer, served as township assessor for 12 years many years ago.

Surviving are a daughter, Miss Thelma, at home; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Samuel, of southwest of Garrett.
