Rose Joyce Stinson, age 88 of Sulphur Springs, Texas died peacefully at 11:45 P.M. Tuesday, July 4, 2006 , at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, following an extended illness. Starrett-Rose Funeral Home of Paris will conduct funeral services 2:00 p.m. Friday July 7, 2006 in Spence Memorial Chapel of First Baptist Church, Sulphur Springs, with Rev. Bruce Stinson, Rev. Fred W. Lewis and Rev. Don Tinsley officiating. Interment will follow in the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery.
Joyce was born Rose Joyce Wilkins in the Riley Grove Community, near Commerce Texas on July 14, 1917, the oldest daughter of William David (Dave) and Golda Fannie Hindman Wilkins. She attended Commerce Public Schools.
She was married to Cecil Grady Stinson on December 23, 1937 at the home of her parents in Commerce, Texas. She and Cecil moved to Sulphur Springs in 1938, where she resided until her death. She was preceded in death by Cecil on August 5, 1995. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter, Ann Stinson Adams on June 12, 1996. Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, and Mamaw. She was also a devoted homemaker and excellent cook. She faithfully served in her church, First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs for more than 40 years. She was active until ill health forced her to no longer attend, but the church remained utmost in her prayers. She was forced by health to move from her home to Carriage House Manor, where she resided since July 1, 1991.
Survivors include a son, David A. Stinson and wife Joanne of Sulphur Springs; a granddaughter, Debbie Stinson of Sulphur Springs; a grandson, Bruce Stinson and wife Gina of Winnie, Texas; great-grandchildren Savannah Malynne Stinson and Tucker Anderson Stinson, both of Winnie, Texas; a brother, Lloyd J. Wilkins of Commerce; a sister: Marie (Mrs. R.D. (Bub) ) Kinser of Commerce; a nephew and two nieces.
Serving as pallbearers are Wayne Galyean, Mickey Eddins, Frank Brandon, Rodney Harred, Garry McClung, Johnny Motes, Bill Hodge, and Mike Crowell serving as pallbearers.
Named as honorary pallbearers are Morris Palmer, Brody Koon, Warren Brewer, Charlie Charles, Doyle Starrett, Clyde Browning, Thomas McLemore, Buel Berry, Raymond McClung, Wayman Keen, Dan Watson, Charles Sellers, Dr. Joe Longino, Charlotte Baxter, Arvis Tanton, Staff of Carriage House Manor.
