JAMES DANIEL MUELLER, age 79, of Kendallville and Avilla, was called home to God on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at his residence in Avilla.

Mr. Mueller was born in Garrett, Indiana to the late Robert Joseph and Ruth Christine (Waller) Mueller. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Fort Wayne and attended two years at Lake Wawasee Seminary. He served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958 and received an honorable discharge with rank of Gunners Mate 3rd class. He married Martha Teders on July 26, 1958 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Avilla.

Jim owned and operated the Standard Oil service station in Avilla for 17 years and he was a school bus driver for East Noble School Corporation for 12 years. He worked as head custodian at East Noble High School for 15 years. After retiring from EN schools he was a courier for Campbell and Fetter Bank for several years. Jim was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He joined the Knights in 1963 and the Fourth Degree in 1983. He was instrumental in forming Council #7839 in Kendallville in 1981. He served as Grand Knight for the Kendallville council in 1985 and 1997 and was named Knight of the Year in 1987 and 1994. He also served as District Deputy from 1988 through 1992 and was part of New Council Development from 1998 to 2000. During that time he helped to form 11 new councils in the area including the Mother Teresa Assembly in Garrett. He served as Faithful Navigator of both the Anthony Wayne Assembly and the Mother Teresa Assembly for several years and most recently served as purser for the Mother Teresa Assembly. For many years, he was the Envoy for Gibault Children’s Services in Terre Haute, a home for boys and girls and he was given the honor of being a Gibault Ambassador.

Jim had a special love for all living things. He spent many hours gardening and tending the flowers in his yard and he found great enjoyment in feeding and watching the birds at the feeders and bird houses that he maintained in his back yard and especially spending time with and caring for his devoted dog Macy. Jim had a strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. He was deeply devoted to his wife and family and was happiest when he was spending time with them. He was loved and respected by family, friends and neighbors throughout his lifetime. Jim was a very special man who has gone home to be with his Father in heaven. He has left us with a great hole in our hearts and will be sorely missed by all, but we are thankful that he is now at peace.
