The obituary of James B. Taylor as published in the April 11, 1940, issue of The Mountain Eagle:
Venerable Citizen Of Camp Branch Passes Wednesday
Uncle Jim taylor, one of {the} old land marks of the Camp Branch section of this county, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 3, at the age of 85 years. He was one of the old time citizens, which has made this county what it is.
He was the son of Bill and Ida Taylor, who migrated and settled in that section of this county from Scott County, Va., more than a century ago. He was married years ago to Dicy Kiser, who, together with two sons, Willie and Jim Taylor of Haymond still survive him.
He was the last member of his father's family, his brothers and sisters who were well known citizens of this section, having preceded him in death. Some of his brothers were Emory, Allen, Charlie, and Jack Taylor.
Uncle Jim Taylor, as he was known, was a good citizen, honest, hard - working, and kind to every one. He lived a close home life and one that has been honorable all these long years.
A few years back he professed a hope in Christ and clung to that simple faith in Christ that all things would be well. In his passing, the Camp Branch section and Letcher county has lost a fine citizen, the wife a good husband and the boys a splendid father.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Colson Cemetery by Elders Elzie Kiser and D. M. Lucas, interment took place in the family cemetery in the old family plat.
Holding services were Rev. Lucas and Rev. Sexton.
The Burke Funeral Home had charge of the funeral arrangements.
