She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Evans; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brooks; sisters, Betty Daniel and Martha Jo Evans; brother, Joe Evans; sister-in-law Elvice Barr; niece, Paula Evans Wallace; and son-in-law, Johnny Christian.
Mrs. Brooks was born April 7, 1924 in Navarro, Texas and graduated from Corsicana High School in 1941. In 1953 the Brooks family moved to Henderson so Mr. Brooks could attend Texas Baptist Institute and Seminary. Her husband then began his career with the Seminary and today is President. They also accepted the call to Long Branch Missionary Baptist Church in 1953 and after 60 years remain as pastor and pastor's wife. Mrs. Brooks, known as "First Lady" of Texas Baptist Intstitute and Seminary, touched many lives all over the world. She greatly loved her church and the Seminary. Mrs Brooks helped put her two children through college by selling Stanley Home Products and made many friends though her work. Mrs. Brooks was also known for her love of Texas A&M, where her husband graduated in 1946; son Jack in 1973, and granddaughter Amanda in 1997. Watching Jack marching in "That Fighting Texas Aggie Band" gave her many hours of enjoyment. She truly bled Maroon. Mrs. Brooks' greatest joy came from being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She adored Raimey and spent many hours playing with her. We will miss her greatly, but rejoice in knowing that she is in the presence of her Heavenly Father and her Savior, Jesus Christ. We also know this is not good-bye because we know we will meet her again in her Heavenly Home.
