Harry Daniel Christie, age 94, died Thursday afternoon, July 06, 2006 at the Haven Hospice Home in Chiefland, Florida. Harry was the son of John Martin and Eliza Wheeler Christie. He lived his entire life in Hamilton and Columbia Counties, Florida. He worked for the Grainger Lumber Company in Lake City, Fl. from 1936-1938 while also sharecropping with Mr. Ferguson. He worked with Ralph Christie during WWII raising hogs and cattle for market, and also cut cross ties for the railroad. He also farmed and operated a sawmill and logging business. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was a charter member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Lake City, Florida. He is preceded in death by his wife Ethel Mae Lee Christie in 1986. They were married on June 23, 1933 in Hamilton County, Florida. They had two children: Wallace Howard Christie b. 1938 and Rubye Nelle Christie b. 1946. Harry is preceded in death by his two sisters, Loie Waldron and Natalie Box; and one brother, Fred Christie. Harry lived in Lake City, Columbia County, Florida on CR250 "Gum Swamp Road". He always grew a vegetable garden in the Spring and Fall. He was a man that saw a lot of change in the world in his 94 years. He believed that a man's handshake was his word and a deal was made and implemented on a handshake without written documents. He loved his family and said that he was a blessed man to have his immediate family living on the property near him. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
