Lillie went to school some in Tennessee and very little in Texas because the schools were too far away. She married John Ferman Pedigo on July 11th, 1900 in Honey Grove, Fannin County, Texas at the age of 19. He was a railroad man and worked in the railroad shops. After they were married, they moved to Denison, Grayson County, Texas where he worked in the roundhouse. They lived close to the railroad tracks down on Lamar street. On that same street about 4-5 houses down, future president Dwight David Eisenhower was born in 1890. They took a trip every summer - the longest one was all the way to Indiana to see his kinfolk. She was left a widow in 1910 after her husband John contracted pneumonia and died suddenly at the age of 36.
After his death, she and her 3 children moved near Bailey, Fannin County, Texas near her father and siblings. She stayed there about a year before moving up to Wellington, Collingsworth County, Texas near the panhandle. She bought a house there in town and 2 lots. She worked several different jobs until she married David A. Muse on October the 20th, 1917 in Wellington, Collingsworth County, Texas. He was a former stablemaster and farmer. At the time, he was widowed with young children and so was she. They sold the house in town and moved out to a farm south of town. She and David Muse had four more children.
She was shot dead November the 10th, 1924, by her second husband David Muse. Before he came to trial, he poisoned himself a couple of days before the anniversary of her death on November the 8th, 1925 which left the children with no parents or guardians. Apparently, he had planned to collect on the life insurance policy he took out on her a few months before.
After the death of both parents within a year, the four youngest children except for Margaret had to be sent to the nearest orphanage known as the "Tipton Home" in the Fall of 1926, which had relocated from Canadian, Texas to Tipton, Tillman County, Oklahoma in 1924. Close family members were unable to take the youngest children because of tough economic times as well as having several children of their own. Her oldest daughter, Laura Mae Pedigo, who at the time was recently widowed with four young children, was forced to take her step-sister, Margaret Muse in with her family because the orphanage did not feel that could meet the needs of a child with cerebral palsy.
