Esther Swift, dau. of William Swift and his second wife Joan, the former widow Dimbleby, bapt. of record Mar. 28, 1629 at St. Mary Magdalen, in Bermondsey, formerly part of county Surrey. With reorganization of the City of London south of the Thames River, Bermondsey is now part of South London's Borough of Southwark.

Esther emigrated from greater London to America with her parents settling in the Town of Sandwich in the Plymouth Colony. By early 1646 Esther (eldest child Jedediah b. Jan. 3, 1646/7) married Ralph Allen, Jr., further identified as the mason. Three children were born at Sandwich to "Ralfe" Allen, the mason: sons Jedediah and Ephraim, and daughter Experience. A child named Esther b. of record at Sandwich in 1648 has traditionally been claimed as the fourth child. However, contrary to the published literature regarding the Swift and very confused Allen families of Sandwich, the claim that this Esther was the child of Ralph Allen the mason is problematic.
