PRISONER DURING CIVIL WAR PASSES AWAY PEACEFULLY
William Tunsley Succumbs at Age of 80 Years at Taber
(From our own Correspondent)
BARNWELL, March 26 - Peaceful death came to William Tinsley at Taber Tuesday night after several months of failing health. He is father of Dan Tinsley of Taber at whose home he had resided this winter, and grandfather of the late Lilburn Tinsley, who with his son was drowned last summer while swimming in Chin Lake.
Mr Tinsley lived for some time with his grandson Lilburn here. Death came quietly Tuesday night as he was helped into bed and just turned over and peacefully met with his death. He lived to the ripe age of over 80 years and his life was one of usefulness.
He was taken prisoner in the United States during the Civil War. Being friendly to a negro slave of his father's, he was locked in prison with the slaves, and only escaped with the help of some of the officers who were friends of the family. Many vivid experiences were related to friends and neighbours by this venerable veteran the past winter.
As death came to the family, so birth came to the widow of Lilburn Tinsley. She sold out her possessions here and moved to Lacombe where her mother resides. She has recently given birth to twins and reports state all are well.
Mrs Tinsley was the first paid up lady member of the Barnwell Social Credit group which was organized last spring.
