She lived in New Lisbon for more than 30 years before moving to New Castle in 1971. Stella was born on Sept. 18, 1922 in Pulaski County, KY, to Harley and Theola Nicholas Cummins. She married Herbert Miller during World War II on Dec. 1, 1943. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the South Pacific. After his discharge, he found work in New Castle and they bought their first home in New Lisbon. Herbert passed away in 1979.
Stella retired from Dana Corp. in 1987 after 26 years of service. She was a member of the New Lisbon Christian Church for many years and then joined the congregation of the First Baptist Church of New Castle.
Stella is beloved by three sons, Danny (Irene), David (Ann) and JD (Jodi); her daughter, Kathy (Mike); grandchildren, Kent--deceased (Tina), Brooke (Christy), Blake (Chaney), and Matthew; and four great-grandchildren.
Stella enjoyed the many friendships she formed through her church, her work and the UAW and AARP organizations. She was also a member of New Castle Order of Eastern Star. Bus trips, meals taken together with friends and enjoying community events filled her days with love and laughter. A point of pride was taking care of her home and yard. Every season had a flower and bird feeders filled the yard with feathery visitors. Mornings and evenings the rabbits would come out to entertain her. And if you drove by during the summer, you would see her happily riding her lawn mower, taking care of her yard well into her 80's.
We are very thankful for her wonderful life and the love of family and friends that surrounded her.
