Philip Arbogast, a retired coal miner died unexpectedly at his home, 116 North Douglas Avenue, at 6 p.m. yesterday, the day following his 87th birthday anniversary. Death was due to a heart attack and followed three weeks' illness.
Mr. Arbogast born in Shiloh Valley township, December 12, 1864, a son of the late Peter and Margaret Arbogast, nee Weber. He first married Emma Weinert and after her death, married Mrs. Anna Trippel, nee Renth, in Belleville, September 4, 1907.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Oliver of Granite City and Oscar of O'Fallon; a step-daughter, Mrs. Lillian C. Werner, R. R. 2, Belleville; three brothers: Walter and John of Granite City and Albert of Belleville; a sister, Mrs. Mary Heidorn, St. Louis; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Several brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
He was a member of the New Baden Local, Progressive Mine Workers of America and St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church.
