Funeral services for Florence Bolender,
age 90 years and 4 months,
were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday,
March 3, 2003, at the United Church
of Primghar at Primghar, Iowa, with
Rev. Ginger Moore officiating.

Interment was at Pleasant Hill
Cemetery at Primghar, Iowa, under
the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge
Funeral Home.

OBITUARY
Florence Nicholson Bolender,
daughter of the late Mary McCorkindale
Nicholson and Alexander
Nicholson, was born at Jefferson,
South Dakota, on October 26, 1912.
With her parents, she moved to
Primghar, Iowa, in 1926 and graduated
from Primghar High School in
1929. In 1933 she graduated from
Grinnell College and later took
graduate work at Northwestern University
at Evanston, IL, Mankato
State and the University of Wisconsin
at Madison. She taught English
and Latin at Stratford, Paullina,
Denison, Pnmghar and Ames, Iowa.
She toured many foreign countries
and made a trip around the world m
1970.

On August 3, 1941, she and Roscoe
A. Ballard were married at Waterloo,
IA To this union one daughter,
Nichola, was born November 6,
1944. Mr. Ballard preceded her in
death in 1959 and since that time she
returned to teaching in the Primghar
Community Schools until her retirement
in 1976.

On November 19, 1976, she married
Dr. W.C. Bolender, who preceded
her in death February 2, 1981.

On February 27, 1987, Dr. A.M
Schierholz and she were married in
Phoenix, Arizona, and he passed
away May 6, 1988.

She participated in church school
activities, and held positions in the
Church Fellowship group. She was
secretary of the County Red Cross.
She served as a trustee of the Primghar
Library for thirty years. She was
a member and officer of Progress
Club, president of Primghar Teachers
Association, member of Delta Kappa
Gamma Society and Iowa Retired
School Personnel Association.

Florence is survived by her
daughter, Nichola Treece of Mesa,
AZ; one grandson, Trevor of Mesa,
AZ; and other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents and husbands,
three brothers, Donald, Robert
and Alexander, preceded her in
death.
