Born and raised in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel and Isabel (Oliveira) Pereira.
A fisherman in the Azores before moving to this country in 1989, he worked for a short time for the former Coppercraft Guild, before retiring in 1990.
A communicant of St. Anthony Church, and a member the Taunton Eagles, Mr. Pereira enjoyed fishing in his spare time.
Besides his wife, Margerida, of Taunton, he leaves a son, Gilbert Pereira of St. Michael; two daughters, Conceicao Pereira and Lurdes Pereira, both of St. Michael; two step-sons, Joseph Rodrigues of Westport, and Alfred Rodrigues of Taunton; one step-daughter, Diane Rego of East Taunton; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
