Eli D. Hoover married Catharine E. Mahoney 5 Nov 1880 in Wayne Co., IN.

The Hagerstown (IN) Exponent,, Thursday, Dec. 10, 1908
Eli D. son of George B. and Susanna Hoover, was born October 14th, 1856, on a farm now owned by his brother John, and died at his home four miles northwest of Hagerstown, December 1, 1908, aged 52 years, 1 month and 17 days.

At the age 24 he was united in marriage to Catherine Eva Mahoney. To this union were born three sons, Martin, Arthur and Omar, all of whom survive their father.

In the spring of 1885 he united with the Church of the Brethren, in which he lived until his death. He always had a deep concern for this family and will be greatly missed by them.

He was strictly honest in all his transactions and was highly appreciated by all with whom he dealt.

He had spinal trouble, which is believed was caused by fall in youth; also a severe shock from lightning later, after which his mental powers have been affected, and of late became very serious.

He departed this life leaving a wife, three sons, three grandchildren, five brothers, two sisters and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn their loss.
