Samuel Glenn Bittner, 85, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born May 29, 1921, in Shady Grove, Pa., he was the son of the late Samuel Phillipy and Clara Alice Garman Bittner.
He had been employed by Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Sabillasville, Md.
He was a member of Edwin Creager American Legion Post 168 and AMVETS Post 7, both of Thurmont, Md.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Martin and Mary Witmer; and six brothers, Lester Bittner, Robert Bittner, Harold Bittner, Harry Bittner, John Bittner and Howard Bittner.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home in Thurmont. The Rev. Janet Comings will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg, Pa., with military honors.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 1 p.m.
