He was born on November 30, 1935 in the town of Almon, Shawano County, the son of the late Eddie and Violet (Wickman) Matz, Sr.
Eddie farmed in the town of Almon and the town of Wittenberg. He also drove truck for Duffek Sand and Gravel. He played baseball for the Town of Almon baseball team for many years. Eddie enjoyed hunting and fishing but especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include four children, Lori (Dan) Kroening, Edgar, Rose (Dick Potrykus) Morgan, Wittenberg, Steven (Deanna) Denovi, Bevent and John (Erika) Denovi, Birnamwood; 12 grandchildren; his siblings, Art (Rhoda) Matz, Elroy (Julane) Matz, Dennis (Donna) Matz, Arletta Kauffman, Reka (Bill) Reynolds, Rose Serrano, June (Phil) Jasurda and Evelyn (Curtis) Low; and two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Matz and Ethel Matz. Eddie is also survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette; two brothers, Kenneth and Allen and four brothers-in-law, Jay Reynolds, Roger Treptow, Juan Serrano and Kenneth Kauffman.
The Funeral Service will take place at 2pm on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg. Rev. Amy Meyer will officiate. Interment will be in the Town of Almon Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 12 noon until the time of services at the funeral home.
