Claiborne Clarence Wright was born in Preble Co. Ohio to Enoch & Susannah "Abshire" Wright.Claibourne came on the trip west with his father Enoch, Brother's Enos A.Wright,Clemens Wright, & his nephew Jacob Wales Wright. After settling his sister, Miriam "Wright" Long-Eagon and her Family in Clackamas, Oregon, The Wright Men all left Astoria, Oregon for San Francisco in December of 1852 and settled in the area today known as Fresno & Tulare County. One of Claiborne jobs was as a teacher in one of the local schools. Along with working the Gold Fields, buying land & becoming a rancher.Claiborne along with his brother Enos filed their cattle brand and then his own brand in Tulare County. In Sept 6th 1864 Claiborne married a widow Lucinda Martha "Hamilton" Smith, and 3 children who's family had 25 acres on the Kings river and ran "Smith's Ferry".Claiborne built a barn, planted a Orchard and made the necessary repairs to the Smith's Ferry Boat so that the family would not lose their federal permit to run the ferry. Claiboure also became the postmaster to the area now known as Reedley, Ca. On December 1st 1867 Claiborne & Lucinda had a son Charles William Wright. In about April 30th 1871, the unarmed Claiborne was shot at point blank range by his step-daughter Harriett L."Smith" Moore's husband William Clemson Moore aka "Outlaw Bill", William Moore left California and avoided prosecution for the shooting and had a history of violence with a cousin in California (Shot to death)and others where ever he went, but always avoided the law & justice. While healing from what should have been a fatal wound, Lucinda left him and took the bed Claiborne had been recuperating in. Claiborne proceeded with divorcing Lucinda. In about 1874 Claiborne had full custody of his son & Lucinda had left California for Kansas. Claiborne moved to Los Angeles, Ca. and lived to be 93 years old after surviving a near fatal shot and passed away a few months after his only son Charles William Wright had passed away from an illness. Claibourne died from what could have been a broken heart.
