Helen was born Dec. 5,1922 in Estherville to Theodore and Edna Mae (Fisher) Billings. She received her education in the Emmet Consolidated School. She later received her GED from Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville and attended Iowa State University in Ames.
In 1946, she was united in marriage to Clarence Prentice. The couple lived in Fargo, N.D. until moving back to Estherville in 1950. Helen was employed at Casa Loma Café in Estherville. She was then employed by the Head Start program and was later the three county coordinator. Helen was also employed by Berkley's in Spirit Lake for five years and Village East before her retirement.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Beverly Titus and husband, Dale of Graettinger; two sons, Robert Prentice of Estherville and Bert Prentice of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Cindy Naig of Milford and Marilyn Street of Pocahontas; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She has been preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, who died in 1978; one son, LeRoy Helmick; two daughters, Faith Elizabeth and Faye Linda Prentice; two great-grandchildren; her parents; and one brother, Merle Billings.
