Mary (Miller) Study

"There is no flock however watched and tendered but one dead lamb is there. There is no household howsoe're defended but has one vacant chair." In these words the poet spoke that which men have noted from the beginning of time.

When Mary Miller was born in Ireland, the 11th day of May, 1841, she being the eighth child and the last one born in Ireland, she with her parents and the rest of the family, left that country in August, 1841, on the Steamship Solan, and landed in Philadelphia, America in September of the same year, being six weeks on the voyage, she being quite small. Later with the family they moved to new Paris, Ohio, and a short time afterwards moved to a farm about five miles north of where she resided at the time of her death. After coming to America, two children were born to her parents, namely Rebecka E. and William T., he being the only surviving member of the family. Her father, William Miller was called to the great beyond, March 8, 1869, leaving her mother to battle life alone, until the year, 1887, on April 22, death again entered the home, taking their dear Mother, Sarah Clyde Miller, from their midst.

The subject of this sketch was united in marriage to henry Garrett, June 8, 1867. To this union was born three children, William N. S., Mary E. E., deceased, and Sarah H. V. September 17, 1872, death called her companion to the great beyond. with her children she walked steadily on always interested in their well doings.

May 29, 1875, she was united in marriage to Carey Hodson, who had five children. She, with her own, took these children in her home and heart as she did her own. To this union was born three children, Lydia M., Susan E., and Rebecca, and again on April 25, 1884, death stole its way into the home, and deprived her of her companion.

Death some way has a tendency to strengthen and broadenus by bringing us into closer connection with our Maker, the Lord Jesus Christ, and also in closer sympathy with our fellow man. Aunt Mary, as we knew her, knew nothing but to love her.

On February 8th, 1890, she was united in marriage to Washington Study, and at the same time took unto her home and into her heart, two step-sons, Alva and Charles Study, who thought of her as a mother in every detail, and to her husband, her heart's companion, she has ever been loyal, faithful, cheering, good help mate, sharing his every joy and helping bear the trials and burdens of life. Always ready to do her part until death called her away on December 25. 1922. But we are thankful that she was spared to be with us to the ripe old age of 81 years, 7 months, and 14 days.

She leaves to mourn her loss, a faithful husband, five children, 22 grandhcildre, stepsons, and step-grandchildren, who will cherish her memories.

Funeral services held at the Friends church at Williamsburg at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, Rev. Lee Chamness officiated. Burial in the local cemetery.
