Anna Cummins Mebane (Mayben) was the daughter of Captain Francis Cummins (1744-1799) and Jean Cummins. She is also listed as Anne and Ann.

Anna Cummins Mebane married David Mebane before 1790. David Mebane was one of the first landowners of the new town of Greensborough (now Greensboro), NC. Between March 25 and September of 1808, he purchased a lot at the corner of South Davie Street and East Sycamore Street.

David and Anna had at least 6 children:

Anna was mentioned in the will of her father, Capt. Francis Cummins, probated in the February court of 1800 in Guilford County, NC. Anna was left a sum of 55 pounds in the form of a horse, saddle, bed and furniture.

Anna (listed as Mrs. David Mebane) was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro founded on October 3, 1824. William Denny Paisley was the minister.

Anna was also a founding member of the Ladies Sewing Society which was started in 1830. In later years, it was called the Female Benevolent Society which helped raise funds to build the church.

Anna Cummins Mebane died on December 31, 1844 and is buried near her son, Dr. David Cummins Mebane and his family and her sister, Thankful Cummins Armfield, in the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery located behind the Greensboro Historical Museum in Greensboro, NC. The cemetery can be accessed by going through the Museum Gift Shop. The tombstone has weathered, but still has Anna Mebane on it.

Anna's obituary was in the Greensborough Patriot dated January 4, 1845. It read in part:

"Died. In this place, on Tuesday morning, the 31st, at past 12 o'clock A.M., Mrs Anna Mebane, wife of the late David Mebane, in the 73d year of her age."

Anna's sister, Thankfull Cummins Armfield, is also buried at the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Thankfull married Solomon Armfield (a son of William Armfield) on March 28, 1807. Thankfull is at Memorial #28833651.

Anne's brother, Thomas Cummins, died August 1, 1813. His will was probated in November, 1813 in Guilford County, NC. In his will, he left his sister, Ann Mayben, his part of the books that their Uncle Thomas Cummins left to them. One of the executors was David Mayben, the husband of Anne.
