Almond and Mary married on August 7, 1882, in Effingham, IL, when she was 17 and Almond was 24. Effingham was about 150 miles away, but Almond had extended family there, with cousins Lorenza and William Gloyd and their families.

The young family remained in Chalmers and was still engaged in farming in 1900, where he rented a home for his family. Mary was then a housewife. They had at least 13 children, but by the 1910 census, Mary reported that only 9 were living. The children included George Franklin Gloyd (Aug 18, 1883-1974); Alta Elizabeth Gloyd (May 8, 1892- May 1981); Alvin "Monroe" Gloyd (July 26, 1894 – Feb 1977); Orie Elmer Gloyd (Oct 4, 1899 – Jan 1979); Albert "Gardner" Gloyd (May 2, 1897- Oct 27, 1972); Alzina Gloyd (Jan 23, 1902 – 1962); Helen "Marie" Gloyd (Oct 14, 1909 - July 30, 1995); Alvina Gloyd (1904 – 1904), and Bertha Lavisa Gloyd (Mar 31, 1889 - May 22, 1969 [my great-grandmother/JGP].
