In 1870, Abram Crampton, aged 6, was living in Brookhaven, NY, post office Patchogue, in the home of his parents, William Crampton, aged 62, and Elizabeth Crampton, aged 40, with siblings, Susan Crampton, aged 15, David Crampton, aged 15, Catherine Crampton, aged 12, William Crampton, aged 10, Abram Crampton, aged 6, and Eliza J. Crampton, aged 4. Also living in the household was Sarah Crampton, aged 28. His father was shown to be a laborer.

In 1900, Abram Crampton, aged 37, was living in Brookhaven, NY, with his wife, Ellen Crampton, aged 36, and children, Katie Crampton, aged 10, and John H. Crampton, aged 5, and niece Bessie Crampton, aged 20. Born in New Jersey, Abram was shown to be a bayman.

Note: Although his death certificate states that his mother's name was Mary Drake, Elizabeth Crampton could be found married to William Crampton in 1860 with children, James Crampton 8, David Crampton, 6, Susan Crampton, 6, and Catherine Crampton, aged 2, as recorded by the 1860 Census for Passaic, NJ. She was also married to William in 1870 with children Susan Crampton, 15, David Crampton, 15, Catherine Crampton, 12, William Crampton, 10, Abram Crampton, 6, and Eliza Crampton, aged 4. Also shown was Sarah Crampton, aged 28.
