Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Jane Balding, wife of Melvin Balding of West Salem, were held at 1:30 p. m. Saturday at the King Funeral Home in West Salem with
Rev. T. L. Belcher, Free Methodist minister, officiating. Burial was in the Moravian cemetery.

Mrs. Balding died Thursday at her home at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 7 days. She had been in ill health for several years. Martha Jane Balding, daughter of Kirk Lindsey and Martha Hannah Lindsey, was born Dec. 7, 1889 in White county and later moved to Edwards county where she grew up. She was married to Melvin Balding of West Salem in 1909. To this union were born eight children: Vernon of Madison,
Wis.; Medford of West Salem; Geneva Longbons of Albion; Dale of Lowell, Ind.; Cleda Swinson of West Salem; Iva Smith of Vernon; Leona Varner cf Wayne City and Buford of West Salem.

Two sisters, Grace Chitty and Dora Balding, preceded her. Be-
sides her husband and children she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Coleman of Albion and Mrs. Ruth Broomeier of Centralia; three brothers, Clarence of Albion, Ross
of Oiney and Forrest of Converse, Texas; 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
