He married Pamelia Adeline Horan on December 30, 1852 in Mississippi and had many children, including Clara, Henry W., Margaret A., Elizabeth N., Delia, William, Mary C., Gertrude, John M., Robert A., and Thomas Collins (as of the 1870 U.S. Census). Other children include Joseph E., Sally A., Arthur T., and Pauline.

Resided in Washington, Sevier County, Arkansas in 1860. Washington served as the Confederate Capitol of Arkansas during the Civil War. He served in the Confederate Army as a Serg. in Company D, Monroe's Arkansas Calvary, CSA.

His widow Pamelia is buried in the Grannis Cemetery in Grannis, Polk County, Arkansas.
