Bernice was born on July 25, 1933, in the town of Hector, a daughter of the late David Hiles and Emma Luella (Eddy) Updike. She worked along side her husband in managing and operating their family business, Delong Trucking. In addition, Bernice tended to the many requests of the families and businesses she worked for over the period of many years.
Bernice was a humble and gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, always putting the needs of others before her own. Bernice was an inspiration for all who came to her with their troubles always offering kind words and advice. Her favorite pastime was watching wrestling, westerns and listening to country music. She enjoyed caring for her many animals and loved to hear her rooster’s crow every morning. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing and love. Her gift of unselfish giving will never be forgotten.
