ALEXANDRIA, IN-Bettie "Joni" (Gipe) Pierce, 88, passed gently away at her residence on Saturday, May 30, 2015

She was born on June 6, 1926 to Paul and Pearl (Lee) Gipe. Bettie was the only girl among 6 brothers and was the last surviving Gipe sibling. She was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1944. She retired from St. John's Hospital in Anderson as a buyer in the Purchasing Dept. in 1997 after 25 years of employment. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the former Alexandria Order of the Eastern Star. Bettie was a hard working farm wife on the Pierce family farm and was a devoted mother to her family.

Survivors: Husband-Edmund "Ed" Pierce-married December 30, 1944 2 Daughters-Pamela (Tom) Johnson-Alexandria, Nina Rogers (Calvin Bailey)-Grand Prairie, Texas 3 Sons-Gary (Cathy) Pierce and George (Kelly) Pierce all of Alexandria, Tim (Linda) Pierce-Anderson 13 grandchildren 22 great-grandchildren 5 great-great grandchildren Sister-in-Law-Lillian Gipe-Alexandria Several nieces and nephews

Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers-Ervin Gipe, Robert Gipe, Bill Gipe, Donald Gipe, Jimmy Gipe and Michael Gipe. Also, a grandson Chad Pierce and a great-great granddaughter-Sophia Presley

Services honoring Bettie's life and legacy will take place at 10 am on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 in the Owens Funeral Home, 412 North Harrison Street, Alexandria with Pastor Micheal Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
