Hannah Trask was the sixth child and third daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Pattemore) Trask. She was born in Merriott, Somerset, England in 1810 and christened at All Saints Merriott on Jun 4, 1810. As a girl she may have spent one or two seasons in Newfoundland (at Bird Island Cove, where her eldest brother, Samuel Trask, was located). She returned to Merriott where she married George Chant om May 5, 1833. The 1841 Census of England shows George and Hannah Chant and children George, Elizabeth, Hannah and Matilda residing in Crewkerne. They returned to Merriott by 1843 because George died their (burial Feb 14, 1843) and Hannah remained a widow in Merriott for the remainder of her life. The 1851 Census shows, Hannah Chant, widow, glover, living on Broadway in Merriott with her two surviving children - Hannah (Anna) age 12 and Elizabeth, age 8. The girls also work as glovers. On the 1861 Census, Hannah, age 51, is a "washer" and her unmarried daughters, Anna (age 22) and Elizabeth (age 18) are still glovers. On succeeding censuses Hannah is shown as "working for gardener" (1871), "charwoman" (1881) and "retired nurse" (1891). She died in 1905 and was buried on Mar 21, 1905 at All Saints Merriott.
