Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Brown Cannada, 82, resident of 418 Hardee St., will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Hudson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Richard Jackson, pastor of the Congregational Christian Church, and the Rev. W. Leon Addleton, pastor of the Cheek Heights Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The body will remain at the funeral chapel until the hour of the service.
Mrs. Cannada died this morning at 6:30 o’clock at her home. She had been seriously ill since Saturday and in declining health for several years.
She was born June 6, 1882, in Durham County, daughter of the late Charles F. and Elizabeth Pope Brown. She had been a lifelong resident of Durham. She was married July 11, 1900, to the late Benjamin C. Cannada, former assistant chief of the Durham Fire Department. Mr. Cannada died Sept. 6, 1955. She was a member of the Congregational Christian Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Miriam C. Ogburn of Marion, Va., and Mrs. Ethel C. Matthews of Radford, Va., five sons, Rupert I. Cannada, Ben C. Cannada Jr., Norman W. Cannada, and Vernon P. Cannada, all of Durham, and Pat H. Cannada of Hillsboro; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grand-children; two sisters, Mrs. M.G. Hall of Durham, and Mrs. E.E. Mills of Apex; and several nieces and nephews.
