Mrs. Patrick Coffey
On Friday, October 5, Peekskill was stunned by the news of the death of Mrs. Patrick Coffey, a long and highly respected resident of this vicinity.
Although not in the best of health during the past year, the deceased bore uncomplainingly the sufferings which culminated in her death; and
that -indomitable spirit which she so
consistently manifested allayed even the slightest apprehension that a life of genuine usefulness was fast drawing to a close.
Possessed of an unusual measure of
energy and at all times anxious con
cerning the comfort and well-being of
others, Mrs. Coffey endeared herself
to all whose happy privilege it was to
know her. Many an unfortunate individual
has been assisted over the turbulent waters of life by the charitable tendencies of that lovable creature who has been removed from our
midst. True, indeed, is the adage, "A
Friend in Need, Is a Friend Indeed";
and how well that saying has been
exemplified by the deceased, her many
friends are better able to bear testimony.
To the husband, daughters and
members of the family of Mrs. Coffey
goes the sincere sympathy of a sorrowful
village. While it is true that
mere words cannot assuage the grief
which has so suddenly come to them,
yet some consolation can be had in
the knowledge that while amongst us
the splendid qualities of their loved
one inscribed themselves upon all In
such a manner as to make her passing
a community loss. This great loss
has come to her husband, four daughters,
Miss Mary, Mrs. James J. Mc-
Guire, Mrs. Chas. Martin, of Peekskill,
and Mrs. Herbert E. Beeden, of Jersey
City, N. J., and four grandchildren.
The funeral was held on Tuesday, at
the Church of the Assumption at 10
o'clock, where a solemn requiem mass
was sung, by Rev. Ed. J. Higglns, Rev.
F. J. Boyle, deacon; Rev. Wm. T. Connolly,
sub deacon; while Rev. Stephen
Secor, master of ceremonies. Rev.
Father Harris, Rev. Vincent Leinrlinger,
Rev. Wm. J. Torpy In the sanctuary.
The choir was the male members:
Messrs. Abele, Cunningham,
Potts and Maley. The church was
filled and the flowers were beautiful.
Interment at the Assumption cemetery.
