Son of James Bond Bowles (1906 – 1958) and Opal Harper (1912 – 1976), he married Helen Margaret Baker on 11 Sep 1954 in Fairbanks, Fairbanks North Star, Alaska, USA. His was is the daughter of Forbes Lawson Baker (1893 – 1985) and Hertha Ida Niddrie (1901 – 1967).

They had five children:

1) Robert Morris Bowles

4) Mary Elizabeth (Bowles) Burkhardt (1961 – 2011)
