Anthony “Tony” Louis Joseph Tankovich, 74, of Delaware passed away Thursday morning May 21, 2015 at the Delaware Court Health Care Center with his wife by his side.

He was born January 15, 1941 in Columbus to the late John and Marie (Kauderer) Tankovich.

Tony graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and attended Ohio State University. He later took evening classes at St. Mary of the Springs (currently Ohio Dominican University), being one of the first men to do so.

On July 6, 1963, Tony married the love of his life Elizabeth “Betty” Schnipke. They resided in Columbus for the first 5 years of marriage before moving to Delaware where they have lived ever since.

Tony was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in the Columbus area until his retirement in 1996. He was a devout Catholic and has been an active and devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Delaware where he served in many capacities over his many years. On January 3, 1983 he was installed as an Acolyte for the Diocese of Columbus by Bishop Griffin.

He was very interested and involved with theology and World War II Naval history. He was also a “train nut”. Many vacations were planned around trains and catholic churches. With his wife by his side, many trips were taken to the Marion train yards to watch trains go by for entertainment.

In addition to his loving wife Betty, he is also survived by 4 sons Joe (Amy) of Longmont, Colorado, Bill (Stacy) of Fort Collins, Colorado, Frank and Paul both of Delaware; 4 brothers John (Paula) of Dublin, Steve (Cindi) of Westerville, Jerry (Karen) and George (Cherryl) of Columbus; 3 sisters Mary Tankovich of Columbus, Elizabeth O’Rourke of Delaware and Cecilia (Mike) Longenbaker of Tollard, Connecticut; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother David.
