Georgina (Brown) Massey, 68, passed away peacefully before sunrise Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in La Jolla, California surrounded by loved ones. She led a full life on earth and was ready to start her journey into her new life.
Georgina was born February 13, 1947 in Ft. Yuma, California. She worked for the Quechan Tribe over 20 years in different positions, Tribal Secretary being her last position before her retirement in 2012. She was baptized at the St. Thomas Indian Mission during childhood. Georgina graduated from San Pasqual High School in 1965 and attended Lampson Business College. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, and taking her sister Marilyn out on their weekly adventures.
Georgina is survived by her sister, Marilyn Brown of Winterhaven, CA; daughter, Denise Massey (Kevin McEwen) of Winterhaven, CA; sons, Dennis Massey (Estella) and Gabe Massey (Chastidy), both of Yuma, AZ; 6 grandchildren, Schuyler Massey, Phoenix Massey, Kailyn M. Malit, MaryAlice Massey, Benji Massey, and Annabelle Massey; countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Massey Sr.; mother, Alice Brown; father, Fritz E. Brown; brothers, Fritz Brown and Reginald Brown; sister, Marveen C. Brown.
Viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a wake at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Yuma Mortuary, 775 S. 5th Avenue, Yuma. Funeral mass will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2015 with Father Rusty Monahan officiating at St. Thomas Mission, 350 Picacho Road, Winterhaven, CA. Tribal Rites ceremony will be start at 5:00 p.m. at Ft. Yuma Big House and Cemetery.
