OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN) - June 18, 2006

Buddy R. Hettmansperger, 72, 1044 Pike St., went to be with his Lord and Savior after a long illness at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Wabash County Hospital.

He was born Aug. 28, 1933, in Wabash to Truman H. and Geraldine (Thomas) Hettmansperger.

Buddy was a 1951 graduate of Wabash High School where he was active in baseball and was 4th Team All State in football. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1953-55 in the Pacific Theater based in Nara, Japan.

He married his high school sweetheart, Jo Ann Koerner, in Wabash on Jan 13, 1952. He was a member of Wabash F.O.P. Lodge #83. Mr. Hettmansperger served more than 40 years in law enforcement. He was appointed to the Wabash Police Department in 1956 by then Mayor, J. Robert Mitten. During his tenure in police work he was Chief of Wabash and later the North Manchester Police Departments. He was an investigator for the Wabash County Prosecutor's Office two years, and from 1990 to 2000 was a civilian communications dispatcher for the Wabash City Police Department. Buddy was an avid sports fan. He loved NASCAR racing, wood working, and watching the Food Network.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Hettmansperger of Wabash; two daughters, Nancy (Stephen) Stewart of Warsaw and Lynne (Charles) Green of Indianapolis; his son, Dean A. Hettmansperger of Wabash; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Donald) Hilton of Noblesville and Justin and Megan Hettmansperger, both of Holly Hills, Florida. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael R. Hettmansperger, who died in infancy and one sister, Anita Hettmansperger, who died in 1947.

Funeral services will be at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash Chapel, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, with Dave Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is the American Lung Association.
