Married Charles A. Besser 16 October 1861 in Charleston, SC. She was his 1st wife's niece. Her mother & his 1st wife were sisters.
According to the 1860 census, Sarah Ann Eason was living with her parents. The census does not indicate her married name of Read or that she was widowed or single. Sarah was not included on the 1850 census as living with her parents as she married April 1850. Found an June 1850 census showing that she was living with the John H. Burke family who was a "pilot" and also living with them was a William Read (probably a brother of Capt. Joseph H. Read) who was a "rigger". She was listed on census as Sarah H. Read born about 1829 in South Carolina. Joseph H. Read can not be found on any census records of 1850 or 1860. He was probably at sea in 1850 and may have died before 1860 since Sarah was living with her family at that time.
