Marvin was born on March 25, 1918, son of Maurice and Anna (Kaatz) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Marvin grew up in Minneapolis and later graduated from Marshall High School. He furthered his education attending North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota where he learned the printing trade. Marvin entered the U.S. Army serving in North Africa and Italy.
Marvin was united in marriage to Vivian Abrahamson on March 10, 1946 in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Marv went to work for the JC Penney Co. in Wahpeton and later Fergus Falls. After moving to Walhala, ND he was made manager of the JC Penney store. He moved to Rugby, ND and continued in managements. In 1968 he moved to Alexandria where he managed the JC Penney store in downtown Alexandria. Marv retired in 1978 when the store moved to Viking Plaza.
Following his retirement Marv helped out at Randy's Mens Wear and Downtown liquor. He also volunteered his services to the food shelf. Marv was a member of the American Legion. He was a past president of the Alexandria Golf Club, the Alexandria Rotary and the Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of First Lutheran Church. Marv enjoyed golfing and fishing. He liked to build birdhouses and especially enjoyed getting together with his friends for coffee.
On November 29, 2002 Marv died at the age of 84 years. His beloved wife, Vivian, who died in May 2002, preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Frieburg; and one sister, Mildred Frieburg.
Marvin is survived by his two sons: Mark, and wife Virginia Frieburg of Olympia, WA; Rick Frieburg of Anoka; his daughter, Jan Frieburg of Richfield; two granddaughters; Krista of Olympia, WA; and Melissa and husband Jeff Kimball, of Spokane, WA; and two great grandchildren, Asia and Jovani Kimball.
A Memorial Service was held December 6, 2002 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Michele Olson officiating. Interment was in the Kinkead Cemetery. American Legion Post 87 provided military honors. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home.
