John Steele was born February 18th 1818 in Tazewell County VA, the son of David Steele and Martha Peery Steele. He married Elln Compton July 30th 1846. Together they had nine children: Mary Ann, Charles Crockett, Martha Emily, Viola, Hiram G, William Nye, Nancy, Virginia Lenora, and John Paris. John died April 22nd 1872 in Gentry County MO.
