Mary Beth Ware Grider was born on February 21, 1935 to John F. and Mackie Ware in Sweetwater TX. Mary was raised in Mobbs TX., where she was a drum major in high school. Mary attended Hardin Simmons University where she studied accounting. She met her husband of 60 years, Dale Grider while in Abilene and they married on November 7, 1954. Before beginning their overseas travels, Mary and Dale became parents to Robert Douglas in 1961 and Mackie Elizabeth in 1965. Mary was active in Beta Sigma Phi, Bridge Club, President of the Petroleum Wife’s Club in Lake Charles, LA and numerous organizations during their many years of travel. Mary and Dale finally settled in Longview in 1980.
While in Longview, Mary was an active member of Oak Crest Women’s Club, enjoyed her bridge groups and the Newcomer’s Club. Mary was an avid supporter of her four grandchildren and loved being their “Nana”.
Mary passed away on Wednesday, May 13th after many years of health problems. Mary was preceded in death by both of her parents, her two brothers, Charlie and John F., Jr., her sister, Margie and her son Robert Douglas “Doug”.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dale Grider; daughter, Mackie Gilmore; daughter-in-law, Tina Grider Lyon; son-in-law, Bryan Gilmore; granddaughter, Megan Elisabeth Gilmore; grandsons, Ralph Dylan Grider, Christopher Bryan Gilmore and Brandon Dale Gilmore; several very special nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends from around the world.
