Married Mary Polly Wright who was born in Virginia in 1768. They were married November 30, 1791 in Caswell Co., North Carolina and bondsman/witness was Thomas Rice, John's grandfather.

The parents of John Sims were George Sims (born
12 December 1740, probably in Hanover Co. VA) and Zebiah Rice (born 3
December 1747 to Thomas and Jane Rice in Louisa Co. VA). They were married
in Virginia by 1762. The father of Mary Wright Sims probably was a William
Wright, given the name of her oldest son.

The children of Jack and Polly Sims were: William Wright Sims (born 27
October 1792), Karenhappuch Sims (her name that of the youngest daughter of
Job, born 20 December 1794), George W. Sims (born 1 August 1797), Lucinda
Sims (born 12 March 1800) who married Hezekiah Bowie (born 1792 in
Maryland), and Johnson L. Sims (born 27 October 1802). My theory is that
the first son was named for his Wright grandfather, the second for his Sims
grandfather and George Washington, and the third for his great uncle Dr.
Lancelot Johnston, who was a Revolutionary War army surgeon and lived in
Caswell Co. NC. Most of the above names and dates are from the Bible
records of my great grandfather Johnson L. Sims and those of his cousin
Rev. Stephen Smith Mallory in Tennessee.

John Sims died without a will around 1820. His wife subsequently lived(census of 1850) in the household of her daughter and son-in-law Lucinda and Hezekiah Bowie. Johnson
L. Sims lived on the land of his father in law John Swain in Abbeville Co.SC until the early 1850's when he moved his whole family to Independence Co., Arkansas. He had married Margaret Swain (who died 27 May 1845) and had
eight children. My grandfather, Robert Calvin Pressley Sims, was the youngest (born 10 January 1844). RCP Sims married Sarah Frances Egner in
Arkansas and had a large family. Johnson L. Sims
died in Arkansas in 1857, and three of his sons were killed in the Civil War. The oldest one survived but had no children; therefore everyone named
Sims in my branch is descended from my grandfather.
