WOODROW HAILEY

HOUSTON – Woodrow Hailey, 98, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born on December 2, 1916, to Richard L. Hailey, Sr. and Laura Barham Hailey in Tennessee. He was a longtime resident of Grenada before moving to Houston. He was a World War II veteran and a retired surveyor. He enjoyed gardening and giving away his vegetables to others. He was a member of the North Jackson Street Church of Christ, where he was an example to others in his faithful attendance, rarely missing a service.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 16 at 3 p.m. at Roxie Cemetery in Roxie with Brother Matt Long officiating. Visitation will be Friday, May 15, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Southern Funeral Chapel in Houston.

He is survived by his sons, Festus Hailey (Ruth) of Tillatoba, Mike Hailey (Rhonda) of Houston; a daughter, Donna Vaughn (Eddie) of Wren; grandchildren, Amanda Hailey of Tillatoba, Debra Long (Matt) of Blue Springs, Karen Benson (Jamie)and Michael Hailey, both of Houston, Matthew Mangrum of Nashville, Tenn., Erin Mangrum of Southaven; five great-grandchildren; and special caregiver, Alice Strickland of Houston.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Essex Hailey; his siblings, Alton Hailey, R.L. Hailey, Jr., Festus Hailey and Pauline Blalock.
