At the time of his death, Roy was survived by his wife, Frances, by sisters Lucille Chastain Robinson Pitchford (1917-2014) and Virginia Woody, and his children and step-children Michael Chastain, Susan Jones, Susan Brookshire, Emory Geiger Jr., Carey Geiger, and Cynthia Geiger. He had 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Elinor.
Roy Chastain served his country as Corporal in the US Marines in WWII. He was a decorated veteran, receiving a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the 1st wave attack on Iwo Jima, Feb. 1945.
Roy retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company with 32 years of service, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was also a member of American Legion Post 184, the Fourth Marine Association, and the Communication Workers of America.
