Roy Chastain passed away 14 Feb 2010 at age 84, and is buried in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Ga. He was the son of James Grady Chastain and Ruby Pearl Carlisle Chastain, and was a native of Blue Ridge, Ga. Roy was married to: (1) Elinor Eason Fields (1924-1967); and (2) Frances Harris (1927-2011). Roy lived most of his life in Savannah, Georgia. He and Frances were married for 42 years. Roy was a founding member and Elder of Islands Christian Church. Despite a memorial stone in Eason Cemetery, Roy is buried in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah. (His 2nd wife is also buried at Bonaventure, but they are not buried together. Frances is buried with her 3 sisters.)

At the time of his death, Roy was survived by his wife, Frances, by sisters Lucille Chastain Robinson Pitchford (1917-2014) and Virginia Woody, and his children and step-children Michael Chastain, Susan Jones, Susan Brookshire, Emory Geiger Jr., Carey Geiger, and Cynthia Geiger. He had 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Elinor.

Roy Chastain served his country as Corporal in the US Marines in WWII. He was a decorated veteran, receiving a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the 1st wave attack on Iwo Jima, Feb. 1945.

Roy retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company with 32 years of service, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was also a member of American Legion Post 184, the Fourth Marine Association, and the Communication Workers of America.
