Paul C. Snyder, 83, of Stockton, Calif., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, in a hospital in California. Born: Jan. 25, 1920, in Stewartsville, he was the only child of the late Charles and Evona Snyder. Personal: In 1942 he married his college sweetheart, Irene M. Butts. They were married for 61 years. Paul was a 1937 graduate of Phillipsburg High School. In 1939, he entered Houghton College in Houghton, N.Y. In 1949 he graduated from Lafayette College in Easton with a B.A. He received his Masters degree from Lehigh University in Bethlehem. He also pursued studies at Rutgers University towards elementary administration. In 1941, he returned home to work at Ingersoll-Rand in Phillipsburg. He later taught at High Bridge High School for a year. Afterwards, he returned to his hometown as principal of the elementary school which he himself had attended. In 1952, he accepted a position in Holland Township in Milford as chief school administrator (the Superintendent), where he remained until 1980. In 1980, Paul and his wife moved to Stockton, Calif., in order to see their grandsons grow up. In 1943, Mr. Snyder was called to serve his country in China, Burma and the India Theatre until 1946. Memberships: He was an active member of Quail Lakes Baptist Church. He was a 55 year member of Masonic Lodge No. 52 of Phillipsburg and a member of the New Jersey Retired Teachers Association and the New Jersey Administrators Association. Survivors: his wife of Stockton, Calif.; a daughter, Nancy Irene Schneider of Stockton, Calif.; a son, David Paul Snyder of Washington; a son-in-law, Dr. Edward Schneider of Stockton, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Snyder of Washington; two grandsons, Adam Schneider, and his wife, Angela of Houston and Paul Schneider, and his wife, Julie of Stockton, Calif.; and a great-grandson, Colin Schneider. Services: Memorial services were held on Jan. 5. The Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home in California was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Cherokee Memorial Park. Memorials: to Youth for Christ, P.O. Box 8841, Stockton, CA 95208, or to the charity of one's choice.
