He was a life-long resident of Hawkins County and a member of the McPheeters Bend Baptist Church. Scism was a retired foreman of Holliston Mills with 32 years service.
Survivors include his wife, Karlie Caldwell Scism, Church Hill; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Dobbs, Church Hill; one son, Dana Scism, Mount Carmel; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon from the McPheeters Bend Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Dezeam officiating.
Burial was in the McPheeters Bend Cemetery.
