Cubelle Loper Harris, age 91, passed away the morning of Tuesday, May 5, 2015, in Hendrick Medical Center.
Interment in Ross Cemetery Annex.

Cubelle was born on January 29, 1924, south of Baird, Texas, to Jerry T. Loper and Florence Reynolds Loper. The fourth of eight children, she attended the schools of Fairview, Lone Oak, Clyde, and Baird, graduating from Baird High School in 1940. She worked in the Callahan County Clerk's office one year and then 6 years in Austin for a life insurance company before returning to Baird where she began a 34 year employment with Russell-Surles Abstract Company. In 1983 Cubelle was elected to the office of Callahan District Clerk and remained in office for 16 years, retiring in December of 1998.

Cubelle married Joe Harris on December 10, 1955. They had been married over 51 years at the time of his death in January of 2007. Being married to a true cowboy and character of sorts provided friends with many hours of entertaining stories of their adventures over the years! Joe and Cubelle loved to play in couples tournaments at Shady Oaks Recreation Association where they were charter members. Cubelle was a member and former office holder of the Shady Oaks Ladies Golf Association, and also had been active over the years in the Baird Little League Association and Junior Wednesday Club. For many years she served as Secretary and Memorial Chairperson of the Callahan County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, and she played bridge in several local groups. Cubelle had joined the Methodist Church in Clyde at the age of 10 on Easter Sunday in 1934. She was a long time member and supporter of the First United Methodist of Baird. Cubelle was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. You didn't visit her home without hearing family stories and seeing the latest pictures of her beloved grandchildren and their families.

Survivors include her brother, Aubrey Loper and wife Charlotte of Waco, Texas; her daughter-in-law Sue Harris of Midland, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Jason Harris and wife Brenda of The Woodlands, Texas, Gina Johnson and husband Steve of Fishers, Indiana, and Traci Harris of Odessa; 5 great-grandchildren, Corey Harris, Kristen and Tyler Johnson, and Justin and Erica Harris; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her son, Wally, 3 sisters, Gracye Lee Anderson, Nell Freeman, and Madge Pierson, and 3 brothers, Jerry Loper, Lee Loper, and Stanley Loper.
