Marguerite Adeline Volden was born in Seattle, Washington, March 8, 1903, the daughter of Alfred and Anna (Marty) Voyen. When Marguerite was eight the family moved to a farm near Abercrombie, North Dakota and Marguerite attended school and graduated from Wahpeton High School. She continued her education at the Wahpeton State School of Science and the Maryville State Teachers College. She moved to the Alexandria area where she taught at the Garfield and Nelson schools before meeting Oscar Volden. The couple were married at the First Lutheran Church in Alexandria on June 19, 1939. Following her marriage, Marguerite taught in Carlos for many years.
As hobbies she loved to travel and do crafts being especially skilled at copper and leather tooling. Marguerite was also a student of the Scriptures and loved to memorize them. She retired from teaching in 1972 to assist her husband when he became ill. She took care of him until his death in 1990. Since 1994 Marguerite has been a resident of the Minnesota Masonic Home in Bloomington. She died there April 28, 2000 at the age of 97 years.
Marguerite is survived by her daughter Marge and husband Ken Drone of Richfield; three grandchildren and one great grandson. Mrs. Volden was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters, Gloria Urbach and Hazel Pease.
Funeral services were held April 30, 2000 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Rev. Kathryn Rothman officiating. Interment was in the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.
