Hazel's older brother, Harry, was born 26 Dec. 1890, in Jennings, Ks. She had three younger brothers, Boyd Allyan, born, also in Jennings, KS, 15 Nov 1895; Richard Henry, born in Colorado City, 20 Dec. 1898; Maitland Day, born in Goldfield, 4 Jan 1901; and her sister, Georgia, 7 Nov 1904, in Loveland, Colorado.
Her mother, Sarah died, while pregnant with her seventh child, after a fall while running to catch a train. Sarah is buried in Evergreen Cemetery (near downtown Colorado Springs, CO). Sarah's mother, Susan Lutherman Beers Bayly, and brother, George Beers, are buried in back of Sarah. This is a beautiful cemetery. My daughter, Jenny, and I visited Evergreen Cemetery in 1990.
Hazel married Raymond Miller Rice on 23 Aug 1909, in Canon City, CO. Hazel's dad married Alice Siebert in 1908, and they soon moved to Coffeyville, Kansas. They are buried in Miami, Olkahoma. Hazel and Raymond lived in Victor, CO (where my husband's mother, Allyene, was born); Montrose, CO; Coffeyville, KS; Globe, AZ; and finally into Southern California.
Hazel and Raymond also had a son, Norman "Eldridge" Rice, while living in Coffeyville, KS. Eldridge became a teacher in El Monte, L.A. Co., CA, and later a principal. An elementary school in El Monte is named for him. His daughter, Valerie, moved Eldridge and wife, Margaret, up to Oregon to be with her. Margaret and Eldridge both died there. Their burial locations are unknown.
