Charles Clayton Langford, 78, Kokomo, Ind., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, at Riverside Medical Center, Bourbonnais, Ill.

He was born in Trenton, Fla., Aug. 27, 1918, son of the late John and Ocia Barco Langford. A U.S. Army medic in World War II, he was a conscientious objector and never carried a weapon. He received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and a Silver Star; served in the North African and European campaigns and went ashore in the Normandy Invasion and was wounded retrieving injured soldiers. He received a bachelor's degree from Southern Nazarene University, master's degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Mo., and taught public school in Howard County, Ind. He pastored in Missouri, West Virginia, and Indiana, was head of the Ministerial Association in Kendallville, Ind., and member and ordained elder in the Nazarene Church.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Zula Muse Langford, whom he married July 4, 1946, in Nashville, Tenn.; four daughters, Annette (and Robert) Howard, Oakland, Calif., Mary Alice (and Dan) Hillman, San Jose, Calif., Beth (and Dan) Dattilo, Bourbonnais, and Esther (and Rick) Henderson, Bradley, Ill.; two sisters, Cloyce (and T.D.) Young, Cornersville, Tenn., and Blanche Shieldes, Orlando, Fla. Other survivors include Norma Muse, Gladstone (and Vickie) Muse, Eltie (and Lowell) Tarter, Irving (and Mary) Muse, all of Nancy; Christa Cheek, St. Petersburg, Fla., Dwain Muse, Cincinnati, and Alice Muse, Dayton, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Jim, Matt, and Mike Hillman, Alex and Robbie Howard, Anna and Tess Dattilo, and Chuck, John, and Abigail Henderson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and Adgel and Bernice Langford, Jesse and Ann Langford, Herb and Bertha Langford, Bud Langford, Ira and Alene Smith, Effie Huggins, and John and Myra Feagle.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Delmer Church of the Nazarene, Nancy, with the Revs. Luther Watson and Al Farris officiating.

Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Somerset.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at Morris and Hislope Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Retired Nazarene Ministers Fund.
